Abstract:
It is reported recently a new iridovirus, isolated from sick Cherax quadricarinatus, is temporarily named as Cherax quadricarinatus iridescent virus ( CQIV), which has infected Procambarus clarkii and Litopenaeus vannamei. In order to explore tfie capability of infection on crabs of Crustacea, Decapoda by the virus. Used Eriocheir sinensis and Pachygrapsus crassipes as the experimental object on which the real-time fluorescence quantitative poly-merase chain reaction ( PCR) and transmission electron microscopy technique is applied. It is concluded that the virus can infect Eriocheir sinensis and Pachygrapsus crassipes. We speculate that other crabs may also be the poten-tial host and it implies that CQIV poses a potential threat to the cultured crab.
