Research on endangered mangrove species and recovery status in China

  • Mangrove species in China account for about 1/3 of the total in the world and they occupy an important position in the protection of mangrove diversity of the world. But at the same time, more than half of mangrove species in China are more and less endangered forming a great pressure on the scientific protection and restoration. In this paper researches on the endangered status and mechanism, and conservation of mangrove plants are reviewed. The endangered characteristics of the mangrove plants in China are more serious than those species in the world in view of high endangered level and highly centralized in extremely narrow zones. The conservation study for the plants in China involves many aspects of endangered mechanism and seedling breeding of a few limited species. Besides, it faces the lack of scientific knowledge for species indroduction and hands of monitoring and maintenances. Conside-ring comprehensively the endangered factors,it is necessary to combine the habitat protection with artificial breeding activities for the natural regeneration ability of endangered mangroves species.
